Lumen & Logic

A floating island of flat-colour panels assembled on a shared field of straight lines. Every panel is a quadrilateral or triangle cut from the same two dozen datum lines, grouped into a few near-parallel direction families, so edges run on from one shape into another across the whole composition and nothing is quite square. Panels are laid down one at a time and must touch what is already there, so the mass grows into a connected clump with a ragged silhouette made of whole panel edges; later panels cover earlier ones opaquely. A share of the panels are filled with the ground instead of paint, a share are hatched with tight parallel rules, and a few carry a knocked-out disc, a bracket counter or a solid dot. One hue carries the composition and every overlap is forced to contrast. Last, the picture is laced with its own construction drawing: a share of the datum lines are stroked as hairlines that run clean across the paint and overshoot into the empty ground, with registration crosses at their intersections outside the mass and short stacks of graded rules alongside it. Flat, hard-edged, opaque — no gradients, no texture, no transparency.
