A slab of interlocked cartoon parts in flat enamel colour behind heavy black keylines. Twelve abstract archetypes — capped tubes bent into C-curves, S-curves, hooks, coils and mitred bolts, tapering horns, pointed lenses, plump pods, discs punched into targets, sawtooth crowns, serrated comb-leaves and pie-wedge fans — are dropped largest-first into a greedy occupancy pack so they nestle, overlap and interlock edge to edge, each one fully opaque so depth is occlusion alone. Colour comes from a separate layer: the plane is carved into large convex cells by one family of straight lines (irregular facets, parallel bands or radial wedges), each cell flooded a rung of a luminance-sorted tone ladder, and every form is filled by repainting that same partition inside its own outline one or two rungs offset — so a single unbroken tube steps through three tones along its length and the tone boundary runs dead straight across form after form, like an off-register colour plate under a key plate. Sparse lighter ink detail — ringed eyes, stitch rows, nested arc bands, dots, lash ticks and punched holes — sits on top, a few spiky forms break the slab edge onto the bare ground, and the composition is trimmed to a hard-edged convex slab that leaves a bare margin on all four sides. Flat opaque fills and hard outlines only — no gradients, no shading, no transparency and no text anywhere.
