A rosette of rolled paper petals over a sprayed near-black ground. Every petal is one parametric sheet rather than a shape with a gradient painted on it: a tapering spine curve, a width profile along it, and a roll angle that grows toward the tip, sampled as a surface so that the silhouette, the smooth transverse light ramp and the visible underside are all consequences of the same geometry. One fixed light governs the whole picture, so every petal is bright on the same flank; wherever the roll carries the sheet past the horizon the surface turns away and is repainted in a darker, hue-shifted underside, and where the roll is steep enough the projected silhouette folds back over itself into a scroll. The sheets are stacked into concentric rings, each ring rotated in phase and shrunk against the one outside it and each petal tilted off radial so the bloom turns, painted outermost ring first so the inner petals close over the outer ones, with a tight contact shadow where one crosses another and a thin rim light along the lit flank alone. Behind them a wider, entirely flat under-bloom of pointed petals shows only at the rim, each carrying nested contour bands in cycling contrasting hues and, on a minority, a clipped pattern of dot grids, parallel hatch, concentric arcs or paisley scrollwork. Further back, hairline ghost fragments of mandala and paisley ornament radiate from the bloom and are buried by it, over a splatter field of soft colour haze, a shell of fine speckle, flung droplets stretched along their own ray with satellites trailing outward, and thin drips that fall and bead. Depth inside the bloom is overlap and shading alone: no perspective, no cast shadow on the ground, no reflections and no texture.
