The Chirikov standard map p′ = p + K·sin θ, θ′ = θ + p′ — the canonical model of Hamiltonian chaos. Being area-preserving, every initial condition traces its own eternal orbit: plotted together as pointillist dots they reveal the KAM portrait — smooth invariant curves, chains of island resonances strung like pearls, and a speckled chaotic sea. Each orbit carries one palette colour by its initial momentum; the kick strength K dials order into chaos.
