A heaped nest of metal shavings. Every mark is the same primitive — an open path stroked twice, once wide in hard ink and once narrower in a flat light tone — so each ribbon carries a crisp outline down both edges and is fully opaque, hiding whatever it crosses; depth comes from occlusion alone. The ribbons are walked as polylines through a flow field with an off-centre focus, wrapping it tangentially close in and combing radially further out, with abrupt mitred corners and 140-degree hairpins folding them back on themselves, so the pile reads as curled lathe swarf rather than as drawn line. Long smooth sweeps ride over the top and one- and two-segment stubs fill the floor. Beneath it all lies a posterised grisaille under-painting of large hard-edged flat regions — a ringed iris with a warm lens, warped strata, a field of alternating teeth or a shattered plane of shards — which shows through every gap and, because each ribbon takes its tone from the region it starts on, keeps the under-image legible through seventy percent cover. Grisaille throughout with a single warm accent; flat opaque fills and hard outlines only, no gradients and no transparency anywhere.
