A cabinet of isometric specimens: a cloud of boxes, flattened slabs and six-pointed stars suspended inside a wireframe cube, on a ground of diagonal bands. There is one primitive and one lattice — every mark is a face of an axis-aligned box with integer corners, seen along (1, 1, 1) in true isometric — so the picture has exactly three straight directions in it, because the projection admits exactly three. The stars are not stars but 3-D pluses, which this projection turns into regular six-pointed ones without anything drawing a star, and the depth is nothing but occlusion, ordered by an exact box-versus-box test. Each specimen has one ink and shows three flat tones of it assigned by face normal, with a single haze fading the far ones into the case; dressings — stripes, pixel mosaics, plus-signs, inset borders — are traces of the solid’s own subdivision, so a motif meets itself exactly across every edge.
